Celosia cristata cockscomb is an annual upright herb, that likes high temperature, and hot and dry climates, drought-tolerant, but not cold-tolerant. Seeds cannot germinate without exposure to light. If the temperature is below 15℃, the leaves will turn yellow and growth will stop. If the temperature is below 5℃, frost damage will occur. Short days can induce early flowering. The water requirement is medium, the water requirement is small during the seedling stage, and the water requirement is large during the vigorous growth stage to flowering. It is not intolerant to waterlogging. Excessive humidity during the growth period, poor ventilation, and accumulation of water can easily cause disease or root rot. It is not very selective for soil, but sandy loam soil with deep, fertile soil and good irrigation is suitable for seed production.
